Session 2021-22 continued to present many additional challenges for our learners and staff as we were only able to provide very limited face-to-face learning and teaching activities until March 2022.

These challenges were most keenly felt by our youngest learners (Under 18s), and by those on programmes with a relatively high practical content.

A summary of the PIs for 2021-22 is shown in the table below:

Our part-time programmes have continued to perform better than the full-time programmes, with 73.2% success and 78.4% success for FE and HE respectively. The number of students who successfully completed part-time programmes is slightly more than those who completed in the previous year.

Some subject areas continued to do well during the pandemic, with ESOL and Languages (74.3% success), with 321 learners, Construction (73.7% success), with 778 learners, and Education and Training (68.2% success), with 58 learners being the most successful.

High Early Withdrawal rates, especially on Full-Time FE programmes, had a significant impact on the overall success rates. Many learners reported that they had experienced difficulties coping with online learning at the beginning of their programmes.
