Then come along to one of our 3 week taster courses you will learn new practical skills in our industry standard workshops.

Course includes one to one advice for the next steps for a career in this sector

For 2 days a week (Wednesday and Thursday), over three weeks, in our Springburn Campus, you will cover the following.

Wednesday am –  Practical Brickwork

Skills and knowledge that introduce you to brickwork and covers the following areas:

  • How to select and prepare bricks and mortar for different types of brickwork
  • How to lay bricks in stretcher pattern and bonds
  • How to use tools and equipment for bricklaying, such as trowel, level, plumb line, spirit level, jointer, hammer and chisel
  • How to build a basic wall
  • How to do pointing and finishing for brickwork

Wednesday pm – Practical Civil Engineering (Surveying/Materials)

Skills and knowledge that covers the following areas:

  • Introduction to Industry
  • Intro to Land Surveying – Using a level – set-up and measurements.
  • Materials & Testing – Design and make a batch of concrete, test and destructive test of a cube.

Thursday am – Practical Building Services (Pipework forming and jointing techniques)

Skills and knowledge that covers the following areas:

  • Bending and jointing low carbon steel pipe.
  • Bending and jointing copper pipe.
  • Hydronic testing of pipework

Thursday pm – Practical Mechanical Engineering (Workshop skills)

Skills and knowledge that covers the following areas:

  • Measurement techniques and tools
  • Using hand tools for metal shaping
  • Jointing and assembly methods of metals
  • Machining

Course Dates

The session times for all courses are are 9.00 am to 12.15 pm and 1.00 pm to 4.15 pm.

Learners should be at the campus for 9.00 am.
