About Claire

Claire Philip

Curriculum Manager

Claire has worked in the education sector since 2009. She first trained as an English language teacher while working at an international boarding school, motivated by a desire to better support boarders with their homework. After completing the CELTA in 2012, she gained experience across diverse English Language Teaching contexts, including summer schools, a private language academy in Spain, and university-level English for Academic Purposes tutoring, before transitioning into the Further Education (FE) sector.

Claire finds the FE sector particularly rewarding, as it allows her to work with a diverse range of learners. She enjoys the challenge of supporting students who are developing their language skills for real-world applications, such as employment, further study, and community integration. She also values the practical, student-centred approach of FE, which enables learners to see real progress in ways that are meaningful to them.

In 2017, Claire earned an MSc in TESOL and Applied Linguistics from Stirling University, receiving a Special Commendation from the British Council Master’s Dissertation Awards for her research:

Positive and negative written corrective feedback: A mixed-method investigation of EAP teachers’ word choices.

Currently serving as Curriculum Manager for ESOL, Claire also holds several Appointee positions with the Scottish Qualifications Authority. Her professional interests include corpus analysis and assessment development.
