About the Photography Department

Join Glasgow Kelvin College’s award winning students and lecturers on exciting photography courses designed to take you to the next level.

Our modern photography studios use a blend of traditional and contemporary techniques. The studios combine the classic approach of film photography with the latest digital advancements.

The darkroom is dedicated entirely to the film side of photography and is equipped with all the necessary equipment for developing film, such as enlargers, trays, and chemicals. 

The studio on the ground floor is where the digital magic happens. This space boasts all the latest technology, including high-quality cameras, backdrops, and lighting. The perfect setting for learning and enhancing your photography skills.

 

About Our Courses

We teach NQ programmes: The perfect starting point that will allow you to expand your knowledge of the camera and the world of photography, teaching you how to use the medium to express yourself and undertake focused practical assignments.

Our HND (Higher National Diploma) qualification has been designed to prepare you for a career in the creative industries or progression to degree level study. The HND introduces the student to a whole host of professional assignments where photography has a prominent role in industry. From Fashion photography to Landscape, Portraiture, Photojournalism, Social Photography, Image editing and self-directed projects, this course has your career in photography covered.

Photography Students Snap Top Awards at Craftex

Glasgow Kelvin College photography students Nicola Cobain and Nath Kossak impressed the judges at the Craftex 2025 exhibition, taking home top prizes in both photography categories.

Nicola’s striking macro shot The Dandelion won the Non-Advanced Photography award, capturing incredible detail and atmosphere. Nath’s dramatic portrait Apollo, bathed in golden light, earned first place in the Advanced Photography category.

Both images stood out for their creativity, technical skill, and powerful visual storytelling—huge congratulations to Nicola and Nath on their well-deserved success!

Berlin Trip

Our photography students recently packed their cameras and passports for an exciting trip to Berlin!

The trip gives students real-world experience photographing architecture in one of Europe’s most visually compelling cities.

Students attended a talk in the plenary of the Reichstag building, and they also had access to the Humboldt University library, where they could photograph the interior.
