Video Transcript – Jamie: Lecturer HNC Working with Communities

Hi, I'm Jamie Lumsden, one of the lecturers on the Working With Communities course.

The Working With Communities course is for anyone who wants to get involved in community work, adult education or building community capacity.

We look at the practical things that you can do when you're working with groups. We'll talk about games, we'll talk about how you do safeguarding.

We'll also think about the big picture stuff. How does the work we do as youth workers at a local level fit into national or international themes.

Our course is very inclusive. We seek to understand society, try and work out ways in which we can all work and live together more effectively.

I've got to say, as a lecturer, you will learn as much from those in the class as you will from me and my colleagues.

We take on a wide variety of people whose backgrounds, life experience and understanding of the world helps to shape what we do.

If you're interested in doing community work, please apply and I look forward to seeing you here.

My name is Pauline Bunemi. I am doing Working with Communities in Kelvin College.

I really love the course because I have a women group that I'm working with that really made me decide to come to this course and learn more about how to work with groups, how to work with communities.

I liked it because it's only two days in a week and you have two days to go for your placement.

My placement is with the Afghan women in Glasgow.

Honestly, it is so amazing, you know, meeting all these women when they talk about their experiences, how they made it to the UK, what made them come to the UK and how they're living their life in the UK. It's so amazing.

We have two wonderful lecturers, very patient. They help you in every way.

I would encourage every single person that wants to come to the course, please do.
