The NQ Ready for Education and the Workforce (Level 4) course is designed for young people and adults who may have left school without achieving their full potential and are now ready to return to learning.

This supportive programme helps you rebuild confidence while developing the core skills needed for further education, training, or employment. Through a mix of practical learning, skills development, and subject exploration, you will strengthen your literacy, numeracy, digital skills and employability knowledge.

You will also have the opportunity to explore a variety of subjects, helping you discover your interests and strengths on your journey to education or the workforce.

The course is delivered in a supportive learning environment where staff help you build confidence, develop independence and prepare for the next stage of your educational journey.

This course is ideal if you:

  • Left school early or without the qualifications you hoped to achieve
  • Are the legal school leaving age (S4 and above)
  • Would like to build confidence and core skills before progressing to a mainstream college course
  • Are unsure which subject area you want to study and would like to explore different options

What you will learn

This course offers a broad and engaging learning experience designed to develop the skills needed for college, work and everyday life.

  • Core Skills Development - You will strengthen essential skills including reading, writing, communication, numeracy and problem-solving. These skills support learning across all subject areas and prepare you for further education.
  • Digital and ICT Skills - You will develop confidence using computers and digital tools for study, communication and online learning platforms.
  • Employability Skills - You will learn important workplace skills such as CV writing, interview preparation, workplace behaviours and career planning.
  • Health, Wellbeing and Personal Development - Activities such as sport, fitness and outdoor learning help build resilience, teamwork, and personal confidence.
  • Exploring Different Subject Areas - To help you discover your interests, you may take part in introductory experiences across a range of subjects such as: 
    • Sport and Fitness
    • First Aid
    • Health and Social Care
    • Performing Arts

Entry requirements

While there are no formal qualifications required, applicants should demonstrate:

✅Good communication and interpersonal skills.

✅Working above SCQF Level 3

✅Able to travel independently

✅Are able to commit to a Full time course at 2 and a half days

🕒 Course Options:

  • Full-time: Two and a half days per week in College.

  • If you do not have a formal ESOL qualification but your language skills meet this level, you should apply for your course and then contact our Admissions team to organise an internal language assessment  here at the College.
