Course overview

“To me, photography is an art of observation. It’s about finding something interesting in an ordinary place…I’ve found it has little to do with the things you see and everything to do with the way you see them.

This one year, full-time course is for you if who want an entry level course in Photography and want to learn the basic principals’ of photography including research work, using a Digital SLR camera and basic photoshop skills.

You will be briefed on various projects including photographing people and photographing places.

This course will help to develop your creative skills in photography and support admission to a related further education course in photography or the creative industries.

What you will learn

The course consists of National Progression Awards in Photography and includes shooting visits and visits to exhibitions where available.

Entry requirements

There are no formal entry requirements, however a keen interest in Photography is essential. On application you will be asked to upload a selection of photographic images to support your application.

You must be 16 years or over at the start of the course commencement date.

You maybe asked to attend interview,

  • If you do not have a formal ESOL qualification but your language skills meet this level, you should apply for your course and then contact our Admissions team to organise an internal language assessment  here at the College.

Career Opportunities

A career in photography can open up opportunities in many industry sectors such as, Commercial Photography, Social Photography, Press & Media, Scientific and Medical Photography.

Your role could be as a self-employed freelance photographer or supporting other professionals as a photographic assistant, photographic lab assistant or training others in the art of photography.

Future prospects

This course will support admission to a related further education course in photography or the creative industries at SCQF Level 6.
