This SWAP Access to Humanities course is designed for adults who want to go to university but don’t yet have the formal qualifications to apply. It provides a supportive, structured route back into education — helping you rebuild confidence, develop strong academic skills, and prepare for degree-level study.
You’ll explore a fascinating range of subjects such as Psychology, Sociology, History, Politics, Philosophy, and Literature, while improving your research, writing, and communication skills.
This programme is part of the Scottish Wider Access Programme (SWAP), which offers university progression routes for adults returning to education. You’ll be guided by experienced lecturers who understand the challenges of coming back to study and who’ll support you every step of the way.

Assessment is continuous throughout the year, using essays, reports, class discussions, and presentations instead of final exams.
✅ No formal qualifications are required.
✅ You must have been out of full-time education for at least three years.
✅ You should have good communication skills, which may be assessed during the application process.
