Course overview

This course introduces you to the core elements of Art and Design and will take you through a range of both fine art and design processes. You will gain new skills in drawing and painting, printmaking, graphic design and illustration.

You will also learn to use contemporary design software (Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign) and associated hardware such as scanners and digital cameras.

You will gain an understanding of the broad range of career paths open to you and will receive guidance and support in building a portfolio.

Entry requirements

There are no formal entry requirements, however a keen interest in Art and Design is essential

You will be asked to upload a selection of art work to support your application. You maybe asked to attend an interview.

You must be 16 years or over at the start of the course commencement date.

For this course, if English is not your first language

  • you need to have SQA ESOL Higher (or equivalent)
  • If you do not have a formal ESOL qualification but your language skills meet this level, you should apply for your course and then contact our Admissions team to organise an internal language assessment  here at the College.

Future prospects

This course enables you to build a portfolio of work suitable for a range of HND and degree courses.

The progression routes from this course are varied and include graphic design, illustration, fine art, contemporary art practice, textile design, interior design, applied arts, model making for film and television, animation and others at both Scottish colleges and further afield.
