Courses can be tailored to suit 8, 10 or 12-weeks delivery and can be bespoke to the interests and needs of the group and we would be delighted to discuss any further options, including requests for community courses that are not on the list below.

Employability Course

Job searching, applying for jobs, effective CVs, preparing for interview, presentation skills, and effective communication with individuals and organisations.

Personal Development / Wellbeing

Can be designed to meet the needs of the group, help learners set personal goals and develop their understanding across a range of areas. 

Child Development & Positive Parenting Skills

Aimed at parents/carers, and those with an interest in a career in childcare. 

Topics include child development, needs of children, skills to assist with challenging parental issues, and exploring what is available in communities to assist parents/carers.

Photography

Composing photographs; what to look at/for, simple and effective techniques, taking interesting shots, and enhancing photographs. 

The course can include a combination of; Introduction to Photography, Photographing People, Photographing Places and Working with Photographs. 

Suitable for complete beginners or those with some experience.

Beauty Essentials

Topics include Skincare, Hand and Foot care, Brows and Make-up.  Can be tailored to meet specific requirements of groups with regards to content and timeframe.  Can be blended with a range of activities or tailored to one specific subject. 

Courses are interactive, and the learning process requires participants to work on each other.  (H&S Risk Assessment required beforehand to ensure suitability of learning setting)

Digital Skills

Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and digital literacy activities can enhance learners’ ability to find, evaluate, and communicate information electronically on various digital platforms.

Money Skills: Planning & Budgeting

Budgeting, saving, and managing finances, as well as avoiding online fraud.  Skills can  enhance how learners manage their finances and budget for their families. 

Mental Health First Aid & Exploring Wellbeing

Can be delivered as a two-day programme (more suited to learning centre staff and volunteers) or over 8-, 10- or 12-week block. 

Covers influences on mental health, coping strategies and resilience building. 

Barista Skills

The Barista Course ensures participants can prepare perfect hot beverages, and enhances understanding of the industry. Milk techniques, Barista machine set-up, coffee trends, milk substitutes and allergens, teas and smoothies are covered. 

This would be delivered at a college campus unless the partner has access to suitable facilities and coffee machine(s). 

Cookery Skills

The course will enable learners to gain confidence whilst gaining new skills in cookery and bakery. 

Participants will be introduced to different cuisines, learn about healthier options and how to prepare food in a cost-effective way.

Personal Presentation

Communicating with others, positive body language, confidence-building and presenting self in a range of situations.

Meetings and Minute-Taking

Short course covering committee meetings and minute-taking. 

Introduction to Community Development

Covers community development, how it impacts groups and individuals, how people can make change in their community, and how people can find out and share what is happening in their community.

Could lead to Certificate in Youth Work Practice and HNC Working with Communities.

Supporting School Homework

Designed for parents and carers, covering skills, and understanding in how to support their child/children with homework.

Learners will cover digital skills, ICT skills, using apps and Microsoft Teams.

Allergen Awareness

Certificated by Glasgow Kelvin College this course aims to increase awareness of allergens and how to deal with these either at home or in the workplace. 

Infection Control

Certified by Glasgow Kelvin College, this course covers the principles of infection control within a workplace setting.

Customer Care

Covers the principles of customer care, managing expectations and needs, complaint handling, interpersonal skills, and the role of attitudes.

This course is GKC certificated.

Food Hygiene (REHIS)

This one-day course covers all aspects of food poisoning and its prevention, the law, pest control, personal hygiene, temperature control, design of a food room and bacteria. 

Certificate awarded by REHIS.

Emergency First Aid @ Work (REHIS) Max 12 learners per class

This one-day course covers CPR, bandaging, incident management, infection control, heart attacks, strokes, fractures, other illnesses, and legislation.

The course is very active and practical, and participants should be physically able to work at ground level ensuring they do not aggravate any pre-existing health conditions etc. 

Comfortable clothes should be worn on the day due to the level of practical work involved.

Certificate awarded by REHIS.

Health & Safety Course (REHIS)

This one-day course covers a wide variety of items such as slips, trips and falls, risk assessment, fire, electricity, manual handling, COSHH (Control of Substances Hazardous to Health) and legislation.

After successful completion of the Elementary Health & Safety Certificate, participants can apply to undertake the CSCS green card assessment (Construction Skills Certificate Scheme) which is required to work within the construction industry.  

Candidates are required to complete the CSCS operatives test at a CSCS Centre.

Certificate awarded by REHIS.

Alcohol Staff Licensing

This course is certified by Glasgow Kelvin College and is essential for those working in hospitality or retail where alcohol is sold and served.

The course covers the law, licensing objectives, age verification, managing conflict, weights and measures and alcohol units.
