This Intermediate & Advanced Jewellery Techniques (Day Release) course is designed for jewellers who already have experience at the bench and want to expand their technical skillset, creative confidence, and professional practice. Whether you're a developing maker, a returning graduate, or an industry professional refining your craft, this course provides the space, equipment, and expert guidance you need to grow.
Delivered one day per week at our Springburn Campus, the course blends demonstrations, hands-on practice, and personalised project work. You’ll work in one of Scotland’s best-equipped jewellery workshops, exploring both traditional and contemporary processes—from stone setting, fabrication and surface techniques to wax carving, casting, digital design, and experimental materials.
Each week, you’ll build meaningful skills that support your own creative direction, producing finished pieces that show your personal style and technical progression. The course is ideal for those working towards self-employment, professional practice, or advanced study in jewellery and applied arts, and welcomes learners who enjoy exploring ideas through making.

What you will learn
You’ll deepen your understanding of both traditional and contemporary jewellery-making techniques, learning through demonstrations, experimentation, and individual projects.
Key areas include:
- Stone Setting (Intermediate & Advanced) – refine precision skills using a range of gemstones and setting styles.
- Wax Carving and Casting – explore the lost-wax process to create complex and repeatable forms.
- Enamelling and Keum Boo – apply decorative surface techniques to enhance your creative finishes.
- Manufacturing and Fabrication Skills – strengthen core bench techniques for quality and consistency.
- CAD and 3D Printing – introduce digital design and production methods to complement traditional skills.
- Experimental and Alternative Materials – expand your design vocabulary through innovative material use.
- Design Development – translate concepts into finished pieces that demonstrate originality and technical ability.
By the end of the course, you’ll have produced a series of unique jewellery pieces, built new skills, and developed greater confidence in your craft.
Entry requirements
✅ No formal qualifications are required — just enthusiasm, curiosity, and experience working at the bench.
✅ Prior experience in metalwork or jewellery making.
✅ A strong interest in developing advanced jewellery techniques.

- you need to have SQA ESOL Higher (or equivalent, click here to see equivalent qualifications)
- If you do not have a formal ESOL qualification but your language skills meet this level, you should apply for your course and then contact our Admissions team to organise an internal language assessment here at the College.
